Making and passing a research proposal is a prerequisite to defending your dissertation. Students must apply for their dissertation proposal review within five years of their admission(excluding suspension). If the review is passed, the student will be granted the status of a doctoral candidate. If students fail to submit their thesis proposal for review by the deadline, they will be required to withdraw from the program according to the university's regulation. 

Dissertation Proposal Review Procedure

At this stage, you're required to produce a written dissertation proposal and make an oral presentation to the dissertation proposal review committee. Members of the proposal review committee will decide if to accept your dissertation proposal based on your written proposal and the oral presentation.

1. Check Your Crediting and Course Criteria

Students must complete the minimum required credits of the program before submitting the dissertation proposal review application.

2. Complete Your Dissertation Proposal

Discuss your dissertation proposal with your professor. Before you apply for the dissertation proposal review application, both you and your advisor should be satisfied with your draft.

3. Confirm the details for the Dissertation Proposal Review 

(1) Please refer to the following NSYSU's regulation about the eligibility of the Dissertation Proposal Review Committee.

"The Dissertation Proposal Review Committee consists of three to six members, who are assistant professors or above from within or outside the department. The Committee is appointed by the department chair, after being nominated by the advisor."

(2) You can discuss the potential Dessertation Proposal Review Committee members with your adviser. Then, politely request an appointment with these potential committee members to see if they are available. Arrange a time that is convenient to all of the committee members.

(3) We suggest you book the meeting room as soon as you make sure of the schedule. Please note that the EE meeting room online reservation system is only available for two-week reservations. If you would like to book the room earlier than two weeks, please go to the EE office(6F) to register for the meeting room. If you would like to reserve the ICE's meeting room EC2002, please go to the ICE office(2F) and check the available time.

4. Apply for Dissertation Proposal Reivew

Please fill in the application form and submit it with your transcript to the ICE office at least 2 weeks prior to the scheduled date.

*5. Apply for Dissertation Proposal Review Again  (for students who failed in the 1st dissertation proposal review)

(1) If the Dissertation Proposal Review Committee rejects your dissertation proposal, you need to revise your dissertation proposal based on the feedback provided by the committee members. Then, apply for the dissertation proposal review after obtaining your advisor's approval. If the dissertation proposal review is rejected again, the student will be required to withdraw from the program, according to the Regulations of academic regulations of the University.

(2) If a doctoral student has passed the dissertation proposal review and obtained the status of a doctoral candidate before changing advisors, they must re-pass the dissertation proposal review after changing advisors.

若研究生於更換指導教授前，已通過論文計畫書提審取得博士候選人資格，則需於更換指導教授後，重新通過博士論文研究計畫書審查。
